DIY After Shave with Masculine Scent

In an effort to be more frugal and also reduce the exposure to unwanted ingredients in commercial products, our family tries to make as many personal care and cleaning products as we can. Recently, I worked on figuring out how to make a DIY after shave with a masculine scent. My husband isn’t too keen on having a lavender scent on his face when going to work, so we worked to find something more manly for him.

How to make aftershave with natural ingredients

First you will need to round up some basic supplies. But note that after you have your supplies in hand, you can have this entire project done in less than 5 minutes! That makes for a quick and easy gift for the man in your life, but one that is thoughtful… especial for the guy that is into the “art of shaving”.

  • A fine-mist spray bottle – I prefer 2oz bottles because they are great to pack up for travel too and be airline compliant. Plus, we are a low-impact family, so we reuse what we can meaning that if all of it doesn’t fit, then we just save it in something like an old glass vitamin bottle.
  • Cistus Essential Oil
  • Frankincense Essential Oil (This one is part of the starter kit!)
  • Witch Hazel
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Jojoba Oil – this oil is one of the closest to having the same pH as skin and hair. Therefore, it’s a really great oil for the face no matter if someone has dry or oily skin.
  • Sweet Almond Oil – it really soothes the skin, but if you or whomever the spray is for is allergic to nuts and wants to substitute, any vitamin e oil will do!

Ingredients and instructions to make DIY aftershave

All you do is combine 3 tablespoons witch hazel, 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel, 1 tablespoon almond oil, 1 tablespoon jojoba oil, and 5 drops of each essential oil, put the lid on it and shake it! Personally, as mentioned before, I made this in an old vitamin bottle and then used a small funnel to put enough in the spray bottle for use and then the rest stayed in the vitamin bottle for storage.
