Gender Neutral tool sets for kids to play & work with dad

With the right kids’ toy tool set, toddlers can easily work alongside dad in the garage, the shop, and the garden. This is great daddy-child bonding time while still being able to get tasks done around the house and outside. (But we also brainstormed a list of toys great for one-on-one time that dads can give kids!)

And yes, moms do things too. It’s just that… I’m a dad.

Workbench

Our daughter got a wooden toy workbench right around the time she turned 2 years old and it has been no greater joy for her to be able to “be like dad”. With both of our daughters, it has been a favorite toy and something that can even be moved into the workshop to truly work next to daddy.

Shop Stool or Learning Tower

Any time that it is not dangerous, I love having my girls work next to me and at least be able to see what’s going on. It opens the door for mini-conversations and also encourages interest in things they would otherwise not be exposed to. Whether it’s fixing something mechanical or making a wooden stamp with a chisel, they can sit a safe distance away to observe and feel like they’re a part of the process.

We have a learning tower in our kitchen that’s a great safe option for young toddlers to be involved in the shop, but depending on the situation, other adjustable wooden stools are perfect!

Work belt or Work Apron

Our girls, from the time they’re around a year old, have enjoyed spending time perusing the aisles of Home Depot. So having their own canvas tool apron from the store the kids are used to shopping in is a special and functional toy and dress-up necessity for toddlers.

Tool Set

A multi-color wooden toy tool set is the perfect gift for toddlers who want to pretend to be like dad and “fix” everything alongside him throughout the house and outside.

Small gardening and outdoor equipment

Our favorite time together is spent outdoors getting work done together or at least letting our young kids imitate the work the rest of the family does. Some of it becomes chores like watering plants, but others is just fun digging time that practices motor skills while mom and dad do the real work.

Our favorite wooden and gender-neutral kids’ tools:

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Rakes and a full set of junior size gardening tools
  • Metal watering can
  • Garden hand tool set for kids
